Requirements
To participate in the online program for either academic credit or a continuing education certificate, the student must possess:
- A Baccalaureate degree
- Academic credits as listed below:
- 16 hours of biological sciences (microbiology required)
- 16 hours of chemistry (organic or biochemistry required)
- 3 hours of math
- Grade point average of ≥ 2.5 on a scale of 4.0
- Minimum one year of acceptable clinical laboratory experience in a blood center or transfusion service including:
- ABO/D typing
- Antigen phenotyping
- Antibody detection
- Crossmatch
- Antibody identification
- Elution studies
Additional requirements for participation in the online program:
- General familiarity with the use of a computer, a word processing program and the Internet
- Access to a printer and a fax machine
- The ability to complete a two-week onsite rotation in an AABB Accredited Reference Laboratory
- A two-three day onsite rotation at a donor testing laboratory.
